| Forget Wayne and Coleen. Ireland had its own football glamour wedding yesterday when international team captain Robbie Keane tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend, model Claudine Palmer.
They married in a ceremony at a church in Ballybrack, south Dublin. With no Euro 2008 commitments to distract them, there was a strong turn-out of Irish international footballers and their wives and girlfriends. Damien Duff and Shay Given, who both play for Newcastle United, and Richard Dunne, of Manchester City, were among the congregation. Keane's Tottenham Hotspur team-mates Jonathan Woodgate and Jermaine Jenas, Manchester United's Michael Carrick and former player turned TV pundit Jamie Redknapp also made the trip.
Palmer wore a white silk satin dress by Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab. Dress and veil were both embroidered with crystals. The 25-year-old former Miss Ireland contestant also wore an early 19th-century tiara in the form of a wild rose.
The hour-long wedding mass included music from renowned Irish folk singer Mary Black and the Dublin Gospel Choir. A small crowd of locals turned out to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds as they emerged from the St Alphonsus and Columba's Church.
While the wedding party were whisked off to a reception at Co Wicklow's Ritz-Carlton Hotel in a Bentley and Rolls-Royce Phantom, the rest were driven the eight-mile journey in specially laid-on coaches.
